Fourth place for Susan

SUSAN Kirby, of Burniston near Scarborough, and her 21-year-old Palamino mare Sand Drifter (or 'Sandy' as he is more affectionately known) have finished in fourth place in the 2000 Performance Points Awards run by the Side-Saddle Association.

Competitors from all over the world are invited to take part, collecting points each time they participate in any shows, whether hunting, jumping, dressage or any other equestrian event. Extra points are gained for being placed among the prize winners.

Putting the icing on the cake, Sand Drifter received an additional award as 'Veteran Side-Saddle Champion'.

Susan, who works as an events manager at Cookridge Hall in Leeds, gained a total of 3444 points during the year, having only decided to concentrate on side-saddle riding within the last two-and-a-half years.

Although her owner lives in Yeadon, Sandy lives at the family home in Burniston and Susan remains an active member of the Scarborough and District Riding Club.
