Old Malton up to third

Old Malton 3, Dringhouses 0

RAIN affected pitches seem to be the norm this season. Last Saturday's Leeper Hare premier division game was transferred to the Gannock because the main pitch was unplayable.

Old Malton offered little threat until the 23rd minute when a long clearance upfield from goalkeeper McDermid found Hill. He passed to Henderson who took one touch and finished neatly - a well-worked simple goal.

Dringhouses continued to dominate the first half but Old Malton held firm. Nicky Drew made two timely interceptions when a Dringhouses goal looked certain.

The second half was a different affair. Old Malton took control and knocked the ball about well. Michael Henderson's tireless work paid dividends when he intercepted a poor back-pass to the goalkeeper. He passed to Hill who squared it for Steve Boyd to score his first goal for the club.

As the second half progressed Old Malton confirmed their supremacy. Hill's shot narrowly missed and shots from Cooke and Pullan were well saved. A Dringhouses substitution, changing their formation to play three men upfront, resulted in two excellent saves from McDermid.

The third goal came in the 82nd minute after substitute Thornton linked up with Cooke to supply Hill, who scored with a left-foot strike from 20 yards.

Old Malton have now replaced Dringhouses in third place in the league with 24 points from nine games, a point behind Crayke with eight games in hand. Next week Old Malton play fifth-placed Pocklington.
