YORK’S Simon Dyson displayed true Yorkshire grit to scramble into the weekend frenzy of the French Open.
After a two-over-par first round 73, the world number 127 had a major task to get into the last two rounds.
And yesterday’s18 holes were not without turmoil.
But the Malton & Norton Golf Club ace pulled his form around to shoot a level-par 71 and beat the projected cut by two shots.
Dyson toiled to make inroads in the outward nine, which was characterised by eight pars and then a bogey on the par-four fifth.
His comeback started with a birdie on the 12th, and though he dropped a shot on the next hole, he got back level with a four on the 607-yard par-five 14th, the longest hole on the course.
The lead is still held by Kevin Stadler, son of former major winner Craig. He added a 68 to his first-day 64 to hold a three-shot lead.
