HOVINGHAM got their Ryedale Beckett League season up and running at the third attempt with a comprehensive win over Malton & Old Malton.

Hovingham have endured a defeat and abandonment in their first two outings but won by nine wickets last week to climb up the division one standings, while most other matches in the league were called off because of rain.

Malton were dismissed for 66, with only D Foxton and Steve Linsley making double figures as Steve Mosey took 3-3, before C Booth, with 30 not out, and H Hogg, with 20 not out took Hov to victory.

Malton need to address their batting form after two consecutive low scores following their victory over Harome.

In the only other game to be played, Kirkbymoorside beat potential title rivals Pickering by eight wickets.

Kirkbymoorside 86-2 ( D Gardner 35*, E Cass 28) beat Pickering 85- 5(S Smith 33) by 8 wickets

Pickering set a modest total of 85-5 with only captain Shaun Smith (33) making a significant contribution.

Kirkbymoorside's prolific opening pair of last season, Dave Gardner and Eddie Cass, soon set up the win with 35 not out and 28 respectively, while the club's new overseas star, Jacques Budricks, made 21.

This week, Kirkbymoorside, lying second, go to early leaders Harome, in a test of both teams' credentials.
