KIRKBYMOORSIDE reserves completed a newitts.com Beckett League double of first division championship and Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy last Friday when they beat Union Rovers 4-0 in the cup final at Thornton-le-Dale.

The Moorsiders were in control from start to finish, scoring twice in each half against a disappointing Rovers side.

They took the lead after five minutes when Jason Brown slotted the ball under the advancing Union keeper after he a 50-yard run.

Alex Strickland doubled the lead after 32 minutes, and could have had a first-half hat-trick as, either side of the goal, he headed wide when unmarked at an Andrew Ferguson free kick and fired over when well placed 18 yards out.

Brown scored his second goal on the hour mark, with Lee Nesfield completing the goalscoring after 75 minutes.

Three minutes from time, Brown set up Josh Butler but his 16-yard shot went wide.

Midfielder Jack Dowson was the Moorsiders' man of the match, right-back Nicky Todd impressing most for Union Rovers.

The trophy was presented to Moorsiders skipper Daryl Rivis by Bob Pettitt, the league president, with the individual awards presented by vice-chairman Jimmy Blacklock.

Tonight (Wednesday) sees the final of the Marisa Trophy between first division side Ryedale Sports Club reserves and second division Easingwold Town 3rds, at Thornton-le-Dale, kick off 6.30pm.

The league’s last final of the season, the Panasonic League Division 2 Cup, is on Friday, also at Thornton-le-Dale, between second division champions Wombleton Wanderers and Heslerton reserves, kick off 6.30pm.

In last week's semi-finals, Wombleton beat Settrington 4-0 thanks to goals by Karl Richardson, Tom Ellis, and Josh Tateson (2). Richardson was the joint man of the match with Sam Taylor, Rory Darley was Settrington's top performer.

Heslerton reserves reached their first-ever final by beating Kirkdale United 3-2 in a thriller, to cap player-manager Mick Norman first season in charge.

Heslerton started strongly and, following some early opportunities, took the lead on the half-hour mark through Pete Tiffney's ferocious 18-yard shot into the roof of the net. Five minutes later, Joe Schofield made it 2-0.

Kirkdale came out fighting in the second half and scored within three minutes through Paul White.

Heslerton’s Dan Blanchard came off the bench after 65 minutes and within 10 minutes restored his side's two-goal advantage.

Ten minutes from time, Kirkdale’s substitute James Haror scored to set up a nervous last 10 minutes for the home side, but they held out.

The vastly experienced Tiffney starred for the winners, helping to pull his much younger team-mates through.

In the last league game of the season, Easingwold Town 3rds beat Wombleton 4-0, with Brandon Carrick, Gary Paper, Steve Johnson and an own goal finding the target.
