PAUL HANAGAN may not be quite as familiar a face at Beverley since he moved to Newmarket as he was when he was stable jockey to Richard Fahey and ruled the roost at the Westwood, but he is sure to have plenty of support on the course this afternoon when he is poised to complete a treble.

Hanagan teams up with his former boss Fahey in the opening Beverley Minster Maiden Stakes on Bond's Girl and this speedily-bred youngster is fancied to take advantage of a favourable low draw and make a winning debut.

In the Happy Birthday Dadie Oughtred Handicap, the feature race on the card, Hanagan, pictured, wears the colours of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, his retaining owner, aboard Muteela, trained by Mark Johnston.

The filly had just one run last season and it was a winning one, achieved by a slender margin, at Lingfield in October. The handicapper has given her an opening mark of 78, which looks fair. She should go well and is awarded the nap selection.

Hanagan also winning claims on Lunar Spirit in the Follow Us On Twitter @beverley_Races Handicap.

Trained by Ralph Beckett, the three-year-old had only three outings last season, but showed a hint of ability, not least at Kempton when finishing third on her final start. She has a mark of 66 in her first handicap and could be tempting as she steps up to what promises to be a suitable distance.

David O'Meara's Omnipresent (3.30), a lightly-raced gelding and a winner at Kempton last season for Sir Michael Stoute, and Tim Easterby's King Of The Celts (4.00), who shaped well on his re-appearance and who is a course and distance winner here, are two others to keep on the right side of.

At Newcastle's twilight meeting, Soul Brother is of particular interest in the Crabbie's Scottish Raspberry Maiden Stakes.

A brother to one of Tim Easterby's stable stars of recent seasons, high-class sprinter Body And Soul, the three-year-old has so far been confined to just two outings. Unplaced on his debut at York last summer, Soul Brother showed himself in a more prominent light at Newcastle three weeks ago when finishing second in maiden company on this course. He is open to any amount of improvement yet and is selected to come good in this five-furlong dash.

Graceful Act finally came good at this venue earlier this month. Ronnie Barr's mare faces totally different underfoot conditions this time, but with Shirley Teasdale again on board, the six-year-old may be able to follow up in the Rutherford & Co Handicap over the straight mile.

David Barron is a dab hand with juveniles and the Thirsk trainer introduces Mignolino in the opening British Stallion Studs Novice Stakes. A speedily-bred son of Kodiac, he should be given due respect in the hands of Graham Gibbons.

Also worth noting at Gosforth Park are Euston Square (7.45), a capable horse on his day, and Distant Past (8.15), who was in deep when unplaced on his seasonal debut in a hot race at Thirsk and is likely to have benefited as a result.

Kevin Ryan's lightly-raced sprinter can make his presence felt this time with Graham Lee in the saddle.
