A FORMER Malton & Norton Rugby Club player has been called up by the British and Irish Lions for their match against the Chiefs in New Zealand tomorrow.
Tomas Francis, 25, plays his club rugby for Exeter Chiefs. Though he was York-born, he plays for the Welsh national side, and started the majority of their games in the most recent Six Nations.
He played for Malton & Norton from their 'mini' team up to the first XV. He went to school at Ampleforth College.
Writing on the Malton & Norton rugby club website, Ian Cooke, one the club's coaches, said: "All at the club are immensely proud of his achievements.
"From playing for our mini, junior and 1st XV to Premiership winner with international honours and now representing the British & Irish Lions - well done Tommy."
The Lions will face their first test against the All Blacks on Saturday.
