PUPILS at Gillamoor Primary School are challenging themselves in the great outdoors.
The children are taking part in a forest school with this term’s theme of ‘Alive and Dangerous’.
Pupils have cleared an area and focused on the three necessaries for survival: warmth, shelter and food. They learnt to put up a shelter, make food including what they have foraged and make a fire.
The main learning focus was encouraging the children to challenge themselves.
Megan, one of the pupils, said: “We get to learn about things we can eat and I have challenged myself to try more new foods."
Headteacher Alison Tweddle, said: “ Although we are generally smaller than the other schools we compete against, we always seem to ‘punch above our weight’.
"Rounders, cricket, football, netball – whatever the sport, we’ll give it a go.”
