KIRKBYMOORSIDE Golf Club is to host the Yorkshire Championship round of Sky TV’s William Hunt Trilby Tournament.

Described as the largest amateur golf television series in the UK and Europe, the club is hoping the exposure will enhance its profile and also create revenue for businesses in and around Ryedale.

The brain child of golf aficionado and Savile Row designer William Hunt, the series takes place during the summer over several high profile courses throughout the country.

A spokesman for the club said: “In the past players have described playing in the competition as ‘the nearest an amateur golfer can get to the professional experience of playing under the pressure of an international televised event’. The atmosphere created on the day by television cameras, advertising banners around the course, and spectators, is further enhanced by all of the players wearing clothing from the William Hunt Golf Collection presented as part of their entry and qualification prize. Caddies – all players must have a caddy – are kitted out in white overalls and presented with a golf bag.

“Players come from throughout the UK and in the past have come from Dubai, South Africa, Czech Republic and Portugal making the competition a truly International event.”

Although fully subscribed nationally, local players, with a handicap of 0-18, can qualify and play in this year’s event at Kirkbymoorside, via three qualifying days at the club on April 30, May 31 and June 11. Booking is available at kirkbymoorsidegolf.co.uk Sponsorship packages are available for businesses and individuals, some of which include an entry into the main championship on June 29 at Kirkbymoorside. The series will be screened on Sky Sports in September.
