A WOMAN has died after a car crash on a North Yorkshire road yesterday afternoon.

The woman, who was in her 50s and from the Thirsk area, was driving a blue Mini Cooper on the A168 near Thornton le Moor, heading south towards Thirsk, at around 4pm on Monday.

Her car was in a colision with a black VW Golf which was going in the opposition direction, and she sadly died at the scene.

The driver of the other car, a woman in her 50s from Northallerton, was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The two vehicles collided around 350 metres south of the junction with Crindle Carr Lane, near to Bells Farm.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the crash to contact them.

The road was closed to help the two casualties, and to allow collision investigators to examine the scene. It reopened at around 8pm.
