FIRE crews from Malton had two call outs in the early hours of this morning to vehicles on fire.

The first call was at 00.28. The fire service was alerted to reports of a car on fire on Village Street in East Knapton.

The vehicle was a Vauxhall Astra.

On arrival, the crews used a hose reel and breathing apparatus when tackling the blaze.

The second call came just over half an hour later, at 01.07.

This report was of a vehicle on fire on Wold Road, West Lutton - just a few miles south of East Knapton. This time it was a Citroen Dispatch van that was on fire.

Malton crews again attended, and used the same apparatus to extinguish the fire.

The cause of both fires is "believed to be deliberate". Police were called to both scenes by fire services.

A police spokesperson said they are currently investigating the incidents as possible arsons.

North Yorkshire Police is urging anyone with information to get in touch on 101, quoting incident number NYP-21102016-0019.
