Downhill Racer – Liz Bassindale

The Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup is held annually near Fort William. The spectacle of professional downhill mountain bikers racing down the side of the mountain with the gondolas overhead and the lochs and mountains as a backdrop has endless potential for photography (particularly if you don't mind midges!).

The Finish – Bob Ordidge

The photograph was taken at a night meeting in July under warm lighting condition at 1/50 sec shutter speed in order to convey a sense of speed. It is important that one part of the image is recognisable and sharp so that the subject is easily to work out.

A race for the tape at a Rosedale show - David Ireland

The youngsters running for the tape was taken at last year’s Rosedale Show. I just love the expressions on their faces

Canoe Slalom - Lynn Wraith

I recently attended a canoe slalom event at Howsham Mill near Malton. It was a dark and very rainy day with occasional sunny intervals which posed some challenges. Due to the slippery conditions, I couldn’t get to the ideal location to capture the action. However, I found a vantage point on top of a large log next to a tall tree. This helped me to keep my balance and my camera steady while following the canoeists with the added bonus of keeping my equipment fairly dry. It was very testing conditions and something I had never done before. I took many shots and was very pleased with the results.

Motor X - Barrie Tuck

This image was taken at the Whitby MotorX track earlier this year. They have multiple races throughout the Sunday with plenty of viewing opportunities to see the fast moving action.

Tour de Yorkshire – Colin Dilcock

Day three of the Tour de Yorkshire saw the riders go from Middlesbrough to Scarborough, half way through the journey they had to climb up onto Blakey Ridge. They appear to be huddled together to protect themselves from the miserable, cold, wet weather that accompanied them through the North York Moors National Park.

Neck and Neck – Harry Kingman

This photograph shows two athletes in the first stage of the Olympic distance triathlon held at Castle Howard. They are almost half way through the 1500 m swimming stage, then they have to cycle 45 km through the Howardian Hills before tackling the final 10 km run. It made me feel tired just taking the pictures.

Leaping High - Richard Harrison

A competitor leaping high in the British bike trials cup held at Olde Home Farm, Kilwick Percy. The class winners went on to the European round.
