WITNESSES are being sought after a sneak-in burglary in which a handbag was stolen.

A house was burgled in Belvadere Parade, Bridlington, at some point between 12.30pm and 1.15pm on Tuesday.

An unknown offender has entered the property through an unlocked rear door while the victim was outside in the front garden.

The offender took a cream leather handbag with brown straps from the kitchen work top.

Humberside Police detective chief inspector Tony Cockerill said: "Being a victim of burglary is deeply upsetting for the victims and their family. We want to see less offences of this nature, but need the public to assist us by stopping sneak-in burglars who target properties with open doors or windows.

"In vast majority of cases the offenders are opportunists walking around residential area’s looking for possible insecure properties like in this case. I would therefore urge people to make sure that they always lock doors, whether they are in or not and day or night, and only keep doors or windows open in occupied rooms."

Anyone with information about this burglary are urged to phone Humberside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
