GET your flat caps at the ready for an afternoon of traditional Yorkshire fun.

Norton Town Council has organised a Yorkshire Day event to celebrate with the local community, charities and churches.

The celebration will be held on Sunday, the day before Yorkshire Day, at St Peters Church house and grounds, from 2pm to 6pm.

It will involve Yorkshire themed games, including flat cap throwing and horseshoe throwing, with great prizes, lots of stalls, more outdoor games, bouncy castle, barbecue, ice cream, refreshments and a live band.

Prizes have been donated by the businesses in Norton, including an Activity and Swim pass, from Everyone Active at the Derwent Pool, pet voucher from Norton Aquaria, drinks vouchers from Corks and Cans, meat vouchers supplied by Fletchers Butchers, giant chocolate bars from One Stop Norton, Barnies Sarnies sandwiches, water pistol, bat and ball sets and much more.

Councillor Ray King, mayor of Norton, said: "The whole concept is to celebrate our Yorkshire culture, albeit a day early, and create a true community feel while bringing our local charities, organisations and groups together in order to improve their profiles and hopefully assist in their fundraising. The only thing missing will be ferret racing.....any offers?

"There is something for everyone so please come along and enjoy the fun and games.

"Why not join in the spirit of the afternoon and wear your own flat cap?"
