GLASGOW'S top paper boys and girls are being given the chance to pick up their best delivery - a £180 games console.

The Evening Times is launching a recruitment drive for a new army of youngsters to get the city's favourite paper through letterboxes.

And to give them - and existing paper boys and girls - an added incentive, those who secure 10 or more new customers will be rewarded with a Nintendo Wii.

Paper boys and girls who get between five and nine new households reading the Evening Times can earn a new iPod Shuffle worth £55.

The four-week recruitment drive, which started this week, aims to hire 100 new agents.

Although the incentive scheme is designed to recruit new paper boys and girls, the 1400 existing agents aged 13 and up, are also getting the chance to earn the prizes.

Home delivery sales manager Kevin Munro said: "The kids are always smiling rain or shine and they enjoy getting the job done.

"It's a great opportunity for them to earn a weekly wage and tips from customers.

"As well as a good way of keeping fit, they have the chance to get used to handling money and gain a great grounding for working life.

"They also become part of a team, working with drop- off points and a supervisor."

New agents who want to qualify for the Nintendo Wii can ask for a canvassing pack with all the information and advice for getting started.

Supervisors monitor the junior agents and give help and advice on a daily basis.

To qualify for the prizes the youngsters must show they have held on to their customers for eight weeks.

Christopher, 17, and Martyn Stuart, 14, deliver the paper near their home in Mearns Road, Clarkston.

Now sister Jennifer, 12, is hoping to follow in her brothers' footsteps by getting a round when she is older.

Mum Gillian said: "Martyn and Jennifer have their eyes on Christopher's round as he hopes to go to university.

"The incentive is a great idea for kids to make money and take on responsibility."

The last date for signing up with proof of 10 new customers is Saturday, March 17.
