RYEDALE will be visited twice by the Tour De Yorkshire –  the new UCI-approved 2.1 Europe Tour race which comes to the area this May.

The race, which will be held on May 1-3 May , is expected to become a flagship cycling event in the UK in 2015 and an outstanding cycle race in the international calendar, including the participation of top international teams.

It will be broadcast live on national TV and throughout Europe.

The full route details, including what role these key locations will play, has been revealed today on the 100 days to go to the race.

It will visit market towns and villages in Ryedale, including Pickering and Malton, as well as going through the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors National Park, Dalby Forest and the Yorkshire Wolds.

The Tour de Yorkshire is a new race being held by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) and Welcome to Yorkshire (WTY), supported by British Cycling.

Although not on the scale of the Tour De France, the Tour De Yorkshire looks set to attract visitors from all over the world.

For the Tour de Yorkshire the impact in terms of road closures and parking restrictions will be much reduced.

There will be rolling road closures along the race route, which will generally last no more than an hour, apart from start and finish areas and some of the climbs where longer road closures will be required.

Further details will be made available nearer the race weekend. North Yorkshire County Council will be working with transport providers, schools and businesses to plan for the event and to work around the closures.

Coun Linda Cowling, leader of Ryedale District Council, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the delights of Ryedale can be showcased not just once but twice in the Tour De Yorkshire.

She added: “Ryedale has so much to offer both residents and visitors to the area and its prowess in the world of cycling is very well known.

“I am sure the Tour De Yorkshire will raise the profile of Ryedale nationally and internationally and bring financial benefits to businesses throughout the area.”

Will Oxley, Chair  of the Ryedale Tourism Advisory Board said: “Ryedale has hosted the Tour of Britain and  International Mountain Biking events in the past.

"The Tour De Yorkshire provides another superb opportunity for local businesses, towns and villages to work together to promote the area  throughout the  weekend and as a premiere destination for visiting cyclists  in the future.”
