HAIR and beauty students from Ryedale have competed in The Academy Hair and Beauty Skills Competition.

Held at The Academy in Roscoe Street, Scarborough, competition categories included ladies evening hair style, nail art, 1940s make up, men's cut and finish and ladies blow dry.

All students are enrolled on a hair or beauty course at The Academy, which also has a centre in Commercial Street, Norton, and take part in competitions as part of their NVQ qualification.

Students who came first, second and third will go on to the AHT Regional Heats in Gateshead next month competing against other colleges in the North East with the best going through to the national finals in March.

Lindsay Burr, Academy director, said: "Every year we take students through to the national finals and today was the start of that journey. Well done to every student who took part.

"Many Academy students are apprentices in local salons so have worked very closely with their employers to prepare for the competitions.

Lindsay added: " I would like to thanks local employers for supporting The Academy. The standard of work was high this year and we look forward to competing at the regional heats next month,"
