A TEN-year-old boy subjected to ‘bizarre’ sex assaults during piano lessons only plucked up the courage to report his teacher after reading about paedophile Jimmy Savile, a court heard.

David Lowe, 61, allegedly molested ten boys, aged between seven and 13, at the prestigious Westminster Cathedral Choir School and Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire between 1978 and 1984.

The English teacher bribed his alleged victims with sweets and told them it was “our little secret”, Southwark Crown Court was told.

One former Ampleforth pupil, who gave evidence from behind screens, said he remembered Lowe as having a “mad scientist look” with a “European football arty haircut” and a “strange nasal voice”.

He was just ten when the Cambridge graduate attacked him during private piano lessons in the early 1980s, jurors heard.

‘I was thinking about reporting it and then a couple of years back there was a lot of attention in the media about this kind of thing with Jimmy Savile and one or two others which was making me think I want to give my story.’ He told jurors he felt he may have been part of a bigger picture.

Lowe, of Charlotte Street South, Bristol, denies 15 counts of indecent assault on boys under the age of 14.
