FROM Labradors to Staffordshire Bull Terriers, dogs across Ryedale have been strutting their stuff in front of the camera thanks to a unique idea from a local photographer.

Fine art editorial photographer Polly Baldwin, who moved to Kirkbymoorside in March, has been photographing the diverse canine community in a bid to bring dog owners together.

Polly, who has a black Labrador of her own named Beaufort, has so far taken pictures of about 50 dogs and is now appealing for more dog owners to contact her to get their pet on camera.

She is hoping to create a big mural and art installation with the pictures, which can be taken of the dog either playing with its favourite toy, on a scenic walk or sat in their usual spot in their home.

She said: "I have never lived anywhere where there has been so many different dogs. It's a really nice community project really and it has been getting dog owners talking to each other as well.

"I like to do something different with each dog that I photograph and look for a bit of a story as well so that the personality of the dog comes across in the picture

"One lady who recently rang me said that her dog likes to play with the hosepipe so I'll try and get a photo of that so I can really get the character of the dog across."

Owners who would like their dogs to be photographed will have to fill out a short questionnaire about their dog and Polly is happy to photograph dogs in their home or meet elsewhere.

Polly said: "I need as many dogs of different breeds as possible and all breed and temperaments are welcome. I need everything from champion workers to cuddly pooches."
