A SCHEME to build 60 homes on the edge of Helmsley has been revealed by house builders Wharfedale Homes.

The plan was outlined to members of the town council last week when designer Joe Stenton, of P and HS Architects of Stokesley, said the project, on a site bordered by Carlton Road and Swanland, would include 24 affordable homes.

It will include one, three, four and five bedroom homes on what he described as “generous plots”.

One of the key elements of the scheme will be to protect historic fruit trees on the site, said Mr Stenton, who added that other features would include drystone walls and a farmstead-style and courtyard design. Another aspect will be the creation of a footpath to a play area.

He said the design had been based on existing buildings in Helmsley, and the car parking would be in the form of courtyards to ensure that vehicles did not dominate the site.

Chris Patmore, of Wharfedale Homes, said the scheme would be going out shortly for public consultation with an exhibition being staged in the town hall. “We believe the development will be a major asset to Helmsley,” he said.
