AN ORGANISATION that helps local people to tackle drug and alcohol problems has achieved a top accolade for the outstanding way it trains and develops its staff.

The Cambridge Centre, which provides support for people across the whole of North Yorkshire, including Ryedale, has been awarded Investors in People Gold status.

At the same time it also achieved the Health and Wellbeing Award, which recognises the importance the organisation places on the physical and mental wellbeing of its workforce.

The award places the Cambridge Centre amongst an elite handful of Investors in People holders who have reached the gold standard. There is only one other Gold award holder in Scarborough and just seven in the whole of North Yorkshire.

In particular, the centre has been praised for the way it involves people who use the service in the continuous improvement of staff and the service itself.

Cambridge Centre Chief Executive Nikki Orrell said: “Gaining the Gold standard is a fantastic achievement for the Cambridge Centre and we are absolutely delighted. It is all down to the tremendous hard work by the whole organisation – staff, the Board, our volunteers and the students who come here on placement.

“It also recognises the work that we have done in involving service users in helping us to shape the services that we provide for them.

“To the people who use our service this demonstrates that we have staff who are committed to development and to making the services we provide better and better. And for those who commission our services, it is a demonstration of quality in a very competitive market.”

Based in Alma Square, Scarborough, The Cambridge Centre works with people across North Yorkshire to help people to move their lifestyles away from drug and alcohol use. It works in partnership with other agencies to help individuals address their problems with alcohol or drugs to prevent those problems harming them, their families and the wider local community.

Anne Stockdale, Investors in People Specialist for the region, said: "The Cambridge Centre’s success was down to the fact that the whole organisation had been committed to achieving success.

The centre works in confidence with people on an individual basis. To contact the Cambridge Centre call 01653 698547.
