A RYEDALE woman has joined forces with her local libraries to raise awareness of dementia care.
Kim Pennock, who lives in Thornton-le-Dale, became a "Purple Angel Ambassador" earlier this year to help encourage businesses and services to be dementia-friendly.
During Carers Week, which runs from June 9, she will also be visiting libraries to offer advice and share her own experiences.
Kim said: "My aim is to raise awareness of dementia, tell my own story and also to talk to anyone who needs help, for example, who to go to and where."
Julie Atkinson, service development officer for North Yorkshire Libraries, said they had been working with Kim to enable libraries in the area to become dementia friendly and display the Purple Angel logo.
"Staff have received training and we are keen to provide a quiet environment where people with dementia and their carers can come and feel safe," she added.
"As part of this we are supporting Kim during Carers' Week with sessions where people can drop in for information and advice."
Kim will be at Pickering Library on Monday, June 9 and Malton Library on Tuesday, June 10, from 10am - 12noon.
