A VILLAGE hall which is at the heart of its community has been given a financial boost.

Members of Ryedale District Council’s Community Grants Working Party recommended approval of £5,000 for improvements to Thornton-le-Dale Village Hall including new doors.

The decision was ratified at by the council's Commissioning Board.

Pilates, Toddler Groups and Line Dancing are just some of the events which take place in the venue which is well used by villagers and local groups.

“Thornton-le-Dale Village Hall is the real heart of the community, “ said Nancy Firth, Village Hall Secretary.

“So many people use it for a variety of clubs and groups and we are delighted to receive this grant from Ryedale District Council for vital improvements.”

The Community Grant – run by Ryedale District Council - is open to any Ryedale community based organisation or group, for projects that make a positive impact on the community owned or managed facilities and activities in Ryedale.

These include village halls, play areas, sports facilities, village owned shops and activities that support the local community.

The projects, considered by the fund can be varied and diverse but must be able to show that they make a positive contribution to at least one of the council’s stated priorities which include maintaining the quality of their local environment and increasing pride of place, and encouraging active lifestyles in communities where people feel safe

Councillor Steve Arnold, chairman of Ryedale District Council’s Community Grants Working Party, said : “ Village halls like the one in Thornton-le-Dale are vital to local people and play a key role in encouraging communities to both live, work and play together."
