A MAN who drove an overloaded van without insurance has been fined more than £500.

Phillip Christopher McCann, 30, of Highfield Road, Malton, pleaded guilty at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 19, to driving without insurance and using a Ford Transit van which exceeded the maximum axel weight.

The court was told that McCann had driven the van to York on April 28 to pick up some roof tiles to complete a job in Malton when he was stopped by police on the A64 at Whitwell Hill.

Officers had noticed that the back of the van was low.

The van was found to be 26 per cent over the legal weight limit as a result of it being overloaded with roof tiles.

McCann was also found to be driving without insurance.

He was fined a total of £545 and his driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points.
