THE Yorkshire Arboretum near Castle Howard is offering free entry on Monday, from 10am to 4pm.

Arboretum director John Grimshaw said: the day will offer the perfect opportunity for people to discover the arboretum.

“Children are always admitted free here, but each year we also like to offer everyone the chance to explore this beautiful place at no charge.

“People often tell me they’re unsure what an arboretum is and perhaps expect to find row upon row of trees here in a very strict, plantation style.”

The Free Entry Day forms part of the arboretum’s annual event programme, which includes a wide range of family and outdoor activities, botanical and horticultural education, and arts and crafts workshops.
