TO celebrate local history month in May, Pickering and Malton libraries are helping people to find out about the lives of those who lived in their houses.
The event is suitable for people whose houses are more than 100 years old.
“Who Lived In Your House” will take place at Pickering library on Saturday, May 17, 10am to noon, and at Malton library on Friday, May 23, from 2pm to 4pm.
May is Local and Community History Month. The aim is to increase awareness of local history, promote history to the local community and encourage all members of the community to participate.
During this month, members of local communities are being invited to visit their local library to discover how to use library resources, to find out more about the history of their family and community. Libraries have a wealth of material to help customers find out more.
These include books on family history and the history of local communities, historical newspapers on microfilm and online, census information, parish records, historical maps and trade directories.
You can also access information on the internet through website such as Ancestry and Find My Past, 19th century newspapers and Dictionary of National Biography.
