PEOPLE going into long term care in North Yorkshire will benefit from a new initiative to help them make the right financial decisions about their future.

County Hall says paying for long-term care is likely to be one of the biggest choices anyone ever has to make.

The council is working with a not for profit organisation calling PayingForCare to guide people through the process.

Those with savings or capital more than £23,250 are responsible for the full cost of their care.

“The cost of care, and how to pay for it, are huge issues for people to face on their own,” said Cllr Clare Wood, Executive Member for Adult Social Care.

“It is vital to ensure that the right decisions, supported by the right information, are taken to suit people’s individual circumstances, so that they not only get the care they need, but are able to pay for it in the most sensible and appropriate ways.”

People can call PayingForCare on 0808 208 9994 or for further information visit their website at www.payingforcare.org.

A free copy of the care services directory can be obtained by calling 01609 780780.

Information about PayingForCare is also included in the North Yorkshire care services directory, the third edition of which is out this week.
