DEVELOPERS are bringing forward proposals for 37 new retirement apartments in Easingwold - while planning permission has been granted for 22 family homes elsewhere in the town.

McCarthy & Stone is behind the apartment plans for land on Stillington Road, which is currently home to a disused warehouse and storage facility.

"This scheme would bring the land back into use, delivering 37 high-quality retirement apartments with 33 parking spaces and extensive landscaping throughout," said a spokesman.

He said the plans were displayed at a public exhibition at the Parish Rooms in Tanpit Lane, attended by more than 50 local people who were invited to provide their feedback to members of the development team.

Steve Secker, Regional Managing Director for McCarthy & Stone (Northern Region), said he was delighted with the positive response received at the exhibition and would welcome further views.

Meanwhile, plans by Easingwold-based developer Mulgrave Properties for 22 new family homes at Oxenby Place in the heart of the town have been approved by Hambleton District Council’s planning committee.

The scheme involves two, three, four & five bedroom family homes, together with two single-storey houses.

Chief executive Andy Campbell said: “We are delighted that members of the planning committee have seen the benefits our scheme will bring to Easingwold, and as a local company we are very excited to be doing our first development in the town."

He said Mulgrave Properties was aiming to be on site later this year and marketing of the properties would commence in September through Stephenson's Easingwold office.

A spokesman said: "This is anticipated to be the first of five schemes in the North Yorkshire area that Mulgrave Properties will commence over the next 12 months as the company grows, following successful projects in Whitby, Nunthorpe and Sandsend."
