A SCARBOROUGH pub is to undergo a £200,000 refurbishment which will create four new jobs.
The Albert, in North Marine Road, closed yesterday for four weeks while works gets underway on the project following a cash injection by leaseholders Pauline and Mike Hirst in partnership with owners Punch Taverns.
Mr Hirst, who has run various pubs in Scarborough for almost 30 years, said: “I used to manage the Albert in 1985 and I know the area well as I was brought up nearby.
"Pauline and I have always liked the pub and could see the potential. There will be major work conducted throughout with a facelift inside and out.
“The plans look fantastic, we will be creating three en-suite letting rooms and enhancing our kitchen so we can introduce food all day, every day. Pauline and I look forward to seeing the end result.”
The pub is expected to reopen at the end of May with an official launch in mid-June.
Punch Taverns’ partnership development manager Andy King said: "We essentially want to reposition the Albert as one of the leading pubs for residents in Scarborough and visitors passing through.”
