A PAINTER will have her work put on display as part of a collection in a prestigious London art exhibition.

Fiona Scott, 52, of Sproxton, painted a portrait of her 13-old-son Ted, who used to play Malton and Norton Rugby Club, which will now go on display alongside 200 other works of art as part of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition.

Fiona’s work was chosen from over 1,000 entries and will be in the running for the top prize, the £10,000 Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture.

Having exhibited numerous times with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters as well as various other London galleries, Fiona said that she is thrilled to be exhibiting once again.

She said: "It really is quite a privilege to have my work chosen. It is such a fantastic exhibition as well so I am really pleased.

"I am hoping to go down to London to the opening of the gallery to see it on display."

Fiona, who works full time as a commissioning artist, balancing her own projects alongside, has three other children, 19-year-old Sam, 15-year-old Henry and eight-year-old Lily.

She said that Ted was thrilled that his portrait had made it in to the exhibition.

"I have had the painting of him for a couple of years now but he was really pleased when I told him it was going to be exhibited. We are both absolutely delighted."

The exhibition, which will have a special selection of self-portraiture, will be on display at the Mall Galleries near Trafalgar Square from Thursday, May 8 to May 23.
