WORK to clear the ground around Westow Cricket Club’s new pavilion has begun.

Building work has been completed and volunteers are now tidying the site in preparation for the next phase of construction.

The club has been fundraising for years to improve its clubhouse with new toilet and kitchen facilities. Over the past few months the construction of the pavilion itself has taken place, together with a new gateway. Club secretary Julie Price said a number of people spent a morning clearing the area following the building work.

“Heaps of soil, sand, rubble has been moved, as well as dead grass raked up and old fencing wire and rubbish cleared away. Thankfully the ground now looks a lot tidier,” she said.

“The next phase of the project is finishing off the building, including a kitchen, electrics, plumbing, heating, car park, landscaping and decorating.

The external walls are to be clad in wood, which is going to be a big job.”

“Anyone with specific skills who would like to volunteer to help with this stage would be welcomed,” said Julie. The next “tidy up” morning will be on Saturday, from 10am.

A fundraising spring fair will be held on Saturday, March 29, in Westow Village Hall, from 10.30am to 1pm. Donations can be made at justgiving.com/westowcricketclub
