MAJOR new steps towards the long-awaited upgrading of the A64 are to be decided by Ryedale councillors tomorrow.
The district council’s policy and resources committee will give the go-ahead to a memorandum of understanding for an improvement strategy for the road, which, said Julian Rudd, head of economy and infrastructure, will help boost the economy.
The memorandum will combine the efforts of the councils of Ryedale, Scarborough, York and North Yorkshire, as well as the North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the county’s local transport group. The aim will be to carry out multi-million schemes to improve safety, congestion, accessibility and journey times on the busy 60-mile long road. It will also include design work for long-term improvements.
