Pub is named among the best in Britain A RYEDALE pub has been hailed as one of the best in Britain according to a luxury travel magazine.

Condé Nast Traveller magazine features a list of “The Best British Pubs with Rooms”, with The Star Inn, at Harome, listed as one of the best in the country for its setting, food and atmosphere.

The review praised the staff for their breakfasts and the unique surroundings of the 14th century building.

It said: “You could play a mean game of hide and seek here; the creaky eaves – haunted, according to one waitress – hold a private dining space and there’s a cubbyhole for after-supper espressos.”

Andrew Pern, chef and director at the pub, said the staff were thrilled to be listed in the magazine.

“Conde Nast Traveller is a great magazine and it’s fantastic to be listed in their selection of the loveliest country pubs and in very distinguished company too,” he said.

“The reviewer mentions that her stay very nearly overlapped with two Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge’s 40th birthday celebration, which seems to have impressed her – as well as our daddy-bear sized porridge portions for breakfast – very nice indeed.”

The Black Horse Inn, at Kirkby Fleetham, was the only another North Yorkshire pub to make it on to the list, which featured 17 pubs with rooms across the country in total.
